What Is Cryotherapy?

What Is Cryotherapy?

Cost, Advantages and Possible Side Effects of Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is an effective, gentle, non-invasive solution for removal of BENIGN age spots, sunspots and skin tags. At Radiance, we use liquid nitrogen ejected from a pen-shaped, handheld device to target the spots/lesions on a cellular level. This is a very quick, painless treatment. Treatment areas include most commonly face, arms or stomach but can also target lesions on legs and backs.

How much does Cryotherapy cost at Radiance Advanced Skincare & Laser?

  • Age Spot/ Sunspot/ Skin Tag $40 each
  • 3 spots for $75
  • 5 spots for $100

Prior to the treatment the area being treated will be cleansed with an antimicrobial wash. Your skin care professional will target the areas of concern with the Cryopen. The goal is to freeze the skin with liquid nitrogen quickly and then allow it to thaw. This result is maximum destruction of the targeted skin cells. Typically, areas of skin will blister, darken and shed within 10-14 days. Clients should be aware that more than one treatment may be required.

Advantages of this treatment:

  • Short preparation time
  • Low risk of infection
  • Minimal wound care
  • No injectable anesthesia
  • Client does not have to return for stitch removal

After the procedure the treated area may feel tender, slightly swollen and red followed by blistering. Clients are directed to wash the site daily with soap and water. It is common to have clear fluid ooze from the wound until a dry scab forms. The scab will eventually fall off by itself and should not be hastened by picking at area. We educate and explain to all clients that the treated area may result in hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation (lighter or darker skin than normal) of skin. In some cases, a slight scar or divot can occur in skin at the treated area.

Possible side effects may include:

  • Bleeding
  • Blister formation
  • Post treatment headache (if areas on face/head treated)
  • Hair loss (if lesion treated in hair area)
  • Hypopigmentation(lightening of treated skin)
  • Hyperpigmentation(darkening of treated skin)
  • Rarely scarring

With a fast application, minimal discomfort and long list of advantages we recommended cryotherapy to clients who are looking for a low maintenance way to remove undesirable skin lesions! As always, a thorough health history and evaluation of the lesions is obtained at treatment. We at Radiance will always refer our clients to a Board Certified Dermatologist for evaluation/treatment as needed for any suspicious areas.
